An Hour of code lesson plan adaptable for any age, K-12. Featuring Thinkersmith "My Robotic Friends" activity which doesn't require a computer!

Materials

Here is everything you'll need to complete your hour of code:

Thinkersmith Robotic Friends Activity

  • 20 minutes
  • All students will participate in Lesson (teacher/students or small groups of students)
    How-to for teachers and parents:

Supplies Needed:

  • cups
  • symbols chart (may want to remove the left and right turn symbols for a FLIP symbol)
  • printable cup stack pack
  • dry erase board or index cards for each group

The lesson plan:

Inspirational Video

  • 1 minute
  • Provided by Code.org and featuring quite a few famous faces

Guest Speaker

  • 5-10 munutes
  • Guest Speaker will share a 5-10 minute story about how coding and/or computers are used in his/her job

Second coding activity: Student or teacher choice

  • 20 minutes
  • Students will work in small groups or pairs to complete a second coding activity of choice after teacher demonstrates the activity. This can be online activities or even free time with the robotic cups.
  • Guest Speaker will walk around and help/talk to kids as necessary
